The abrupt switch to distant learning in spring 2020, and the prolonged faculty closure in the course of the 2020–21 faculty yr, disrupted district progress towards implementing CA NGSS–as we’ll see within the next section. The state released its list of approved educational materials for grades K–eight in 2018 and required colleges to report textbook titles and yr of adoption of their annual School Accountability Report Cards .
When we asked districts how math, ELA, and/or science are prioritized of their restoration plans, solely 27 percent of respondents said science is a high precedence, whereas more than eighty percent mentioned math/ELA is a excessive priority . Urban districts have been much less more likely to report science being a high priority . The shares of districts that had not aligned their middle faculty and/or highschool course models with CA NGSS in 2019–20 remained nearly unchanged during the pandemic (Gao et al. 2018). A giant majority of districts said that COVID-19 delayed their native process . The sample measurement is just too small to break down by district characteristics.
